Mari Medina
Founder & Creative Director
Hola! I'm Mari, the founder of April Knit Studio. My vision is to create high-quality knitwear that embodies creativity and encourages meaningful growth for brands.
I grew up in Puerto Rico and moved to NYC to pursue fashion at The Fashion Institute of Technology. My interest in knitwear began when I discovered the creative freedom in fabric and silhouette design.
After graduating from FIT, I worked with renowned designers like Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, and Kate Spade. However, I became concerned about the industry's shift towards unsustainable practices, such as producing massive quantities and driving down manufacturer costs. Realizing the urgent need for change, I returned to FIT to pursue a Sustainable Business certificate, equipping myself with knowledge in material sourcing, design innovation, and sustainable production.
In 2020, I founded April Knit Studio, which is dedicated to serving slow fashion brands and startups. With a decade of experience collaborating with knitters, mills, and artisans worldwide, I've helped brands gain recognition on the global stage, with designs featured in prestigious publications such as Elle, Vogue, Hypebeast, Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Refinery29, and InStyle.
